Circular n. 19/2018
Reference: Convocation for the XIV General Chapter of the Congregation
The echoes of the XIII General Chapter, which guided the journey of the Congregation, during the six-year period, 2013-2019, resonate in our hearts once again. The chapter document indicates the need for a re-enchantment for the person of Jesus Christ, the center of consecrated and missionary life; over and over, we are called to “renew today, the personal encounter with Jesus Christ or, at least, to make the decision to let ourselves be encountered by Him, to look for Him constantly without ceasing”. The resurrected Lord, the Living One, gives us the certainty that we can grow and renew our vocation in order to give birth to a vocational culture that renews the whole Congregation, because the fields are ready for harvest. (Jn. 4: 35).
In an attitude of faith, we have accepted the Chapter dispositions, the mandate of the XIII General Chapter, to promote creative and dynamic processes of the requalification of our life, having as foundation Jesus Christ and, starting from this primacy, five great realities are constantly intertwined as indispensable conditions for our spiritual and missionary fruitfulness: Jesus Christ, migrants, relationships, vocational culture and internal organization, and starting from the personal relationship with Jesus Christ, resume a journey of conversion and renewal that makes it possible to establish new and humanized relationships, to be witnesses to the love of God in the world, especially to the migrants and refugees, a theological place, the visible face of Christ for the Scalabrinian missionary.
One of the programs that emerged from the last General Chapter, deepened intensely during this six-year period, was the internal reorganization of the Congregation, with the focus in the mission, we lived it in the centrality of Jesus Christ, in fidelity to the Scalabrinian charism, in the attentiveness to the signs of times, in welcoming new faces of migration. The conviction has grown in us that a reorganization process is leading to revitalization not so much determined by a simple organizational process, but is part of a process of global transformation, in which consecrated and missionary life is also included.
Pope Francis himself exhorts us to turn our gaze to Jesus and to allow ourselves to be looked at by him to “to recover a contemplative spirit which can help us to realize ever anew that we have been entrusted with a treasure which makes us more human and helps us to lead a new life, since God is eternal newness. He impels us constantly to set out anew, to pass beyond what is familiar, to the fringes and beyond. He takes us to where humanity is most wounded.
Therefore, with a heart full of gratitude to the One who walks by us, with gratefulness to God for all that He has accomplished in us and enabled us to realize with His grace, I convoke the XIV General Chapter of the Congregation.
A General Chapter is an event of grace, a gift that God gives to all the members of the Congregation and to the Church; as such it must be welcomed by all the Sisters, as being responsive part of it from its preparation to its realization, welcoming the call of the Lord at this present moment in our history.

Dear Sisters, with the convocation of the XIV General Chapter, a special time begins for each of us, for the life and renewal of the Congregation, for the participation in the apostolic vitality of the Church, in which we are called to a revitalization of our being consecrated and missionary to live the Scalabrinian charism with full docility to the Holy Spirit as prophets, mystics and contemplatives. We are called to learn the art of scrutinizing the signs of the presence of God in our daily life, so as to be wise interlocutors who recognize the demands that God and humanity pose in the furrows of our history, in this changing time, with great global impacts, in the contemporary scenario of human mobility.
We prepare our hearts and welcome with openness this privileged hour, the great Kairós of our God, with the awareness of being responsible for the charism, in an attitude of listening, discernment and availability to the will of the God, the Father and the motions of the Holy Spirit.
I ask that the XIV General Chapter be prepared and then lived in all our communities, with prayers and Eucharistic celebrations, with reflections and study of the specific and dedicates subsidies, letting ourselves to be led by the Holy Spirit, allowing Him to enlighten us, guide us and accompany us where He wants, so that the will of God may be realized.
Let us place the XIV General Chapter of the Congregation under the protection of the Virgin Mary, Mother of hope, may she lead us to the encounter with her Son, the Risen One, who tells us, with a strength that fills us with immense trust and firm hope: “I make all things new” (Rev. 21: 5).
